The oral drug Bilidia was used to treat hepatobiliary insufficiencies and associated symptoms such as nausea, dyspepsia, constipation and migraine. It was considered as a digestion-regulating medicine, acting through the promotion of the flow of bile into the intestine, especially as a result of contraction of the gallbladder. The drug active principle was the propanol derivative cimepanol (1-cyclohexyl-2-methylpropan-1-ol). This compound is also a natural product identified in a stem extract of the medicinal liana Paullinia pinnata L. (known as tchedehi in Ivory Coast and Benin, Africa) used to treat malaria, erectile dysfunctions, bacterial infections and other ailments. Cimepanol is no longer used today.
