The drug Actiphos was sold as a drinkable solution in ampules. It was used as a tonic agent, mainly to combat physic and mental asthenia. This tonic and restorative agent was useful to treat stress-related states. The drug was prescribed also to limit bone decalcification. The product contained several phosphate salts, including calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, manganese phosphate, sodium phosphate, iron phosphate, lithium phosphate. Phosphate is an important element in energy metabolism and muscle function and is essential for numerous biological processes. A reasonable phosphate intake can have a beneficial effect on energy metabolism and muscular performance, but an excessive phosphate intake may impair mitochondrial functions, thereby increasing oxidative stress and inflammation. The drug is no longer commercialized.
